ABOUT

Who we are

We are a group of students from Instituto Politécnico do Porto engaged in a group research about media with the theme of how the media portray traffic accidents in general. We consider the issue to be important since it affects every person regardless of their backgrounds

What do we think?
When reporting a traffic accident Media usually focuses on the number of deaths and tends to forget the ones who were harmed with those losses. Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged between 5 and 29 years. These people have families, friends, someone who is willing to tell their stories in order to warn those who are still alive, but Media doesn’t dedicate enough time for that as it would be expected. We invite our readers to check our posts and along with us try to find a meaning why so many details regarding victims, prevention and the reasons why this is such a problem in modern society, specially since other topics became more popular than actually saving lives

Dalila

My name is Dalila and I’m 18 years old. I’m from Portugal and I live in Vila Nova de Gaia.
I love reading crime books such as CHERUB by Robert Muchamore – it is about a top-secret branch of the British Secret Service that recruits orphan children, training them to work as spies.
I’ve always loved kids. I sometimes take care of the children at my church, – 1ª Igreja Evangélica Batista de Gaia – and we really get along with each other.
I love meeting new cultures and I would like to help non-Portuguese speakers in the process of adapting to my country.

Beatriz

I am Beatriz Silva. I am 17 years old and I am from Portugal.
I am a multifaced person. I like to question things and I do not like to take everything for granted.
I love to travel. I have been to three different countries until now: Germany, The Netherlands and Spain. I like to help people. That passion made me apply for volunteering. I have done more than 50 projects so far. Recently I have  joined Amnistia, an NGO which fights for Human Rights, as an active member.

Felipe

Born in Belém - Pará, Brazil. Graduated in International Business Management in Greystone College, Canada in 2016, recently moved to Portugal to start my languages studies. I have worked with Photography and Video Making as well as Marketing during my time in Canada. While in Canada, I met several people who introduced me to several hobbies such as hiking, hunting, airsoft and shooting some of those experiences were really important for me to grow as a person and discover who I was. Since I met several people, I realised that I was really curious to learn my friends languages and as I interacted with them I was constantly trying to learn them. After my graduation, I worked in Canada for a little longer, then I returned to Brazil to plan what I would do next. After I checked some courses and programs for language courses in Portugal, I decided to move to Porto where I started my language studies.
